“Robotic technology has two main benefits for my patients. The first is being able to offer a more complete treatment for sleep apnea because of the robot’s ability to access the base of the tongue to perform a more complete lingual tonsillectomy (removing the tonsils). For patients with head and neck cancer, early stage tonsil and tongue-based cancers as well as supraglottic cancers, robotic surgery can be more effective without the need for an extensive procedure. Imagine the advantage – the old method requires splitting the lip and jawbone to access the back of the throat. The robotic approach means no external incisions and patients heal just like they would from having their tonsils removed. My results and outcomes are dramatically improved because of the more complete resection, safer techniques and the ability to better visualize the surgical field.”
